The SGPE Summer School

Students

The Scottish Graduate Programme in Economics (SGPE) five-week intensive summer school in Economics.

The summer school will review intermediate microeconomics and macroeconomics, as well as key maths and statistical tools used in economic analysis. Topics to be covered include consumption, production, uncertainty and strategic interaction in microeconomics, while in macro you will discover how economies grow, why some countries have high inflation while others maintain stable prices, why all countries have positive unemployment rates and sometimes experience recessions. The course will run for five weeks, including two weeks of Intermediate Macroeconomics, two weeks of Intermediate Microeconomics and a week of Mathematics and Statistics for Economics. Each segment of the course will be examined on the last day of classes for that topic.  Lectures will take place in the morning and will be followed by excercise classes in the afternoon,  with extra reading to prepare for each class.

The courses will be taught by advanced doctoral students who are friendly and experienced in teaching at both undergraduate and MSc levels.  The pace will be fast and the standard set high in order to encourage advanced learning.   It will be challenging and students will have to study hard to complete and pass the course,  but your reward will be a set of skills that will help you to succeed on our MSc.  Students will also need to prepare in advance by undertaking a self study course in Maths for which they will be given details upon being made an offer to the summer school.
