Robin Alpine, a graduate of Glasgow University, was a Senior Lecturer in the Department from 1971 until his retirement in 2006.  Since then he has been an Honorary Senior Lecturer, teaching classes in statistics and econometrics.  Between 1975 and 1977 he was seconded to the David Livingstone Institute of Overseas Development Studies, working principally on a UNIDO/UNEP project evaluating the environmental impact of different sugar technologies in African countries. He has been consultant to the Clyde Port Authority and the British Airports Authority in relation to traffic forecasting, and to the General Optical Council on manpower planning and recruitment. For many years he was the Departmental Director of Postgraduate Studies and Course Director of the taught MSc in Business Economics
